Hello -- my name is Michael Stephens. I am a senior biology major and also a member of the tennis team at TMC. I will be going into my fourth season here at TMC and also played all four years in high school.
I superficially keep up with sports in the news and usually am aware about most controversies (i.e. Tiger Woods, performance-enhancing drugs, the NFL concussion lawsuit, etc.). I am not too picky about which sports I follow: Obviously given my background, I may be biased for tennis, but (to give one example of my eclectic interests) every four years I make a point to see how the US stacks up against other countries in all the different Olympic sports.
Though I am considered a student athlete, tennis is more a recreational pursuit for me and, since I am normally pretty busy, I sometimes cannot devote as much time to it as I would like (i.e. it is sometimes hard to keep up off-season). In this regard, I guess you can consider my point-of-view as an outside commentator, someone who is looking at sports from a more detached perspective. I think this is advantageous to avoid partiality, but at the same time I am sure other athletes are much more informed than I regarding the nuances of ethics in athletics.
My name is Kevin, I am in my last semester here at Thomas More College. My major is Sports and Entertainment marketing. I played football all four years here at TMC and have been playing since 3rd grade. In my opinion there really isn't another sport that's comparable in football. I have always been a huge sports fan; my life has always evolved around sports. I can have some strong point of views when talking about a sport subject that im interested in. A lot of my point of views are usually on the side of the athlete and how I believe they feel on the particular subject.
Hi, my name is Nick Kohrs. I am a senior physics major with a minor in business and math at Thomas More College. I played football since I was in the third grade and played two years at TMC before I had career ending surgery on my hip, which was one of the toughest things that I have experienced.
I have still continued to participate in TMC track and field. I throw the javelin, discus, shot, weight, and hammer and will enjoy my final season at TMC. As you can see I love sports and have strong opinions on them; however, I am still open to compromise about them.
Hi, my name is Casey McCauley. I am a junior and I run cross country and track. I am majoring in criminal justice and minoring in psychology. I have been running since fourth or fifth grade with the exception of 8th grade. Last year during cross country because of a knee injury. I love to watch sports especially football and some baseball. I don't really follow soccer because it confuses me. I am a sports fanatic because I have grown up playing many different kinds of sports as I grew up.
Hello, my name is Travis Davis. I am sophomore and I am majoring in Sports Marketing and Entertainment. I have played basketball for the past 16 years, the past two years being at Thomas More. My life has basically revolved around me being athletic since I was four years old. I love to watch and learn about sports including: basketball, baseball, football, etc.
Hello, my name is Nicci Stemler. I am a sophomore majoring in Middle School Education. I have played volleyball for the past 12 years. I played high school, club, and I play here at Thomas More. I also ran cross country and track my senior year of high school and my freshman year of college.
I love sports in general, but am not a huge sports fanatic. I do not follow many sports teams besides beach volleyball, gymnastics, and occasionally baseball. I usually only get into sports if I am the one playing them or if it is someone I know playing. Otherwise, I do not find much enjoyment in watching them. Especially football and soccer, as I am very uniformed on those sports and how to play.
The main reason I am looking forward to sports and ethics is because I find the problems surrounding sports interesting. I am also very interested in seeing other peoples perspectives around certain subjects, especially those of whom do not play sports (since my perspective comes from that of a student athlete).
My name is Jake Henderson, a junior biology pre-med major and football player here at TMC. I have played lots of sports in my life ranging from soccer to volleyball. All the sports I've played have taught essential life skills such as communication and teamwork as well as the ability to make quick decisions. However, out of all the sports I've played, football would be the only one where a certain part of sportsmanship is lost. It is one of the few sports where you can physically control someone without intervention. I am looking forward to learning about ethical treatment in sports and the issues associated with it. Since most of us have an interest in sports it will be a very fun and enjoyable course.
My name is Aprill Jackson. I am a junior double majoring in Sports and Entertainment Marketing and Business Administration. I play volleyball here at Thomas More as well as I played softball my freshman year. I then decided that two college sports was too much for me and just stuck to volleyball. Throughout my life I have been very active in various sports and activities including: competitive cheerleading/gymnastics, soccer, swimming, sand volleyball, etc.
I do watch most college, professional, and Olympic sports. I am a huge Ohio State football fan and Reds baseball fan. The ethics within these types of sports is the main reason I signed up for this class. There are so many point of views on different situations and subjects within sports, and to be able to talk about them and understand not only my side better, but also someone elses side, is what I am looking forward to.
Hello everyone my name is Tyler Cohorn. I am a junior here at Thomas More College and currently play football. I am also a Business Administration major. Sports have always been a huge factor in my life starting at the age of two whether it was basketball, baseball, football, or even soccer. Once I got to high school I decided to cut baseball out of the picture and just focus on basketball and football. After junior year I decided to give up on basketball and turn all my attention and hard work to football. I knew that football was my number one love and thats why I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a college football player. I am very excited to get this class underway. I am looking forward to the all of the discussions about the ethical side of sports throughout the semester.
My name is Jensen Gebhardt. I am a junior and I am majoring in sports entertainment and marketing. I have also played football here for two years, about to begin my third. Sports are probably the most influential part of my life. Football has led me to this school and also to the internship that I currently have.
I began my sports career playing baseball and basketball. A couple years later my dad introduced me to football. I ended up playing football since I was 7, basketball since I was 5, and I had to give up baseball at the age of 13 because of a torn rotator cuff. Baseball was always my favorite sport, but when I suffered my injury, I knew college football was the way to go.
I am really excited about this class and I am looking forward to discussions about the biggest aspects of my life.
My name is Tony LaCorte. I am a freshman, undecided major. I am a pitcher on the Thomas More baseball team. Along with playing baseball in high school and now college, I also played basketball in high school.
My favorite sports memory is when I coached a 12 year old baseball team last summer. Its great feeling helping little kids improve their abilities. One of my goals is to become a high school baseball coach. I'd rather work with older kids al help them get to college as opposed to younger kids still discovering their abilities.
I'm very excited for this course but I am also very nervous because I am the only freshman so I don't know anyone.
Tony: you are going to meet a bunch of classmates who will help you out. Do you have any baseball teammates in class? What are you interested in studying? It could be philosophy!
Hi my name is Patrick Jansen, I am a sophomore business major an play football here. I am a fan of basically every sport an have played most of them at one time or another. I am really looking forward to this class, there are some major topics in sports that are very controversial. i am really looking forward to some good conversations and hearing other people opinions on these, just because i know mine are very strong due to how big of a part sports is in my life.
Hi I am Holly Bronner, I am senior sports entertainment marketing major and I am a member of the TMC volleyball team. I have played sports from a young age including basketball, volleyball, and softball. I have completely fallen in love with volleyball and it has been a huge part of my life since I was in the 3rd grade. I have also been coaching volleyball for the past seven years along with playing. I wanted to take this class because I knew it would relate to my major and I love talking about sports and their ethical issues because I think its super interesting.
Hi, my name is Tori Vogelpohl. I am a junior in the nursing program and cannot wait to become a pediatric nurse. Sports have always played a huge role in my life since age three when I started playing on youth teams and my competitive nature makes still love the game. I played just about every sport possible but my love is soccer. I just recently started helping coach my 4 year old nephew's soccer team and I absolutely love it. When I saw this class I thought it would be perfect because I love everything about sports and being able to earn college credit while learning about interesting topics on sports and their ethical issues sounded like a great class to me!
Hi, i am Ryan Winkler. I'm a senior business finance major and play football and participate in track here at TMC. Sports have been a part of my life since the age of being able to participate. I have played just bout every sport but football is my passion. A close second would be the winter sport snowboarding. I'm looking forward to the discussions and conversations in this class and can't wait to learn more through everyones thoughts.
Hello, my name is Kyle Troutman. I am a senior and Im studying sports and entertainment marketing. I also play soccer here at school. I have been involved in sports for 15 years of my life and it has helped me become the person I am today. I would love to coach one day and I know this class will teach me things that I can pass on to kids. Sports are more than just a hobby, they are a way of life. Teaching us many of lessons along the way. I am excited to hear others stories and thoughts as we go.

I have been playing sports for a long time and i finally narrowed it down to basketball and football in high school and while basketball is my favorite sport i decided to play college football instead. I enjoy every minute of any sport that i play, and I am excited to look at sports from a different perspective then my own.
Hello, my name is Victoria Alison Smith--there are three Victoria Smiths in the school so I figured I'd clarify with my middle name--and I am a transfer student from Western Kentucky University majoring in English/Creative Writing. This is my second philosophy class, my first being a Philosophy and Gender Theory/Gender and Women's Studies class. A very different tone of class, obviously. I'll be honest; I have very little interest in sports and was placed in this class because I registered the week before school started. Maybe this class might change my opinion on sports a bit, or at least open my mind about the immoral things that occur in a world I've never been in. Thank you for sharing your world with me.
Hello, my name is Phil Hofmeyer. I'm a senior here at Thomas More, I am studying Physics with a minor in math and going to engineering school next semester. I have been playing sports my entire life, year round until college. I play football here at Thomas More now, and with my last season coming to an end I am glad i get to take one last in depth look into sports, from a different perspective.
Hello, my name is Michael Bernecker. I am now a Junior this year, and also in my third season of Football. There's nothing else that is more fun to me, than sports. Sports is something that will never grow old from me, and i'll always continue to play sports as long as i can. The reason why i took this class is because rather then to know about the physical part of sports, i might as well learn all aspects of sports.

With two older brothers I have been around different sports my whole life and have grown to love their competitiveness and intensity.
